One Year Later

I haven't forgotten about this blog. Life has just happened and the last thing on my mind is to post about it. In fact, I even made an attempt to start a journal for Owen...which is going to be a present to him on one of his birthdays when it will actually mean something to him. I want to keep up now that Owen is in "big kid school". It seems like life has just FLOWN by the past year and I don't even know where to start.
How about with a little recap:
Owen is almost 5 now. He goes to Cubberley Elementary school in the TK (Transitional Kindergarten) program. He complains about having to go to school every day. It's only from 8:35 to 12:05 but he also goes to Kids Club after school. There are 14 or 15 boys in his class and 4 girls. That teacher is a saint. I couldn't imagine.
He's also started soccer in LBYSO. OMG this is probably the highlight of my Saturdays. It is SO freaking cute to watch these boys play! They are so passionate about the game and getting the ball. Yesterday's game was especially exciting. Owen had about 4 breakaways but not one ended in an actual goal, although they were very close. He's a fast little dude. And his teammates are fantastic. A few are clueless and you wonder what they are thinking, but for the most part they are all great little players. I love cheering on the Fireball Dragons.

Greg is working. That's pretty much his life. The shop is thriving. And he also has his podcast every Wednesday night that seems to be getting quite the following. He's "Dr. Duff Man". He's the entertainment. People love him. I totally get it. Other than that, he's trying to keep up our garden in the backyard. This time it's peppers: jalpenos, ghost something or other, jabaneros and serrano. He's crazy. But the best part was making the cuetes: cheese stuffed jalapenos, wrapped in bacon and rolled in a lil brown sugar. So yummy.

I'm working a full time job again. But I actually like this job. The ONLY thing that pains me is the drive. I'm trekking to Irvine every day. Thankfully, I have hours that work with our schedule. I've gotten very familiar with the 405. And I also have a nice collection of audiobooks. Next up will be Italian.
I'm still trying to work my Stella & Dot business. I just can't get enough of it. I love the jewelry and I love sharing it with others. I have a team of about 12 ladies from Bakersfield to Maryland! Want to host a show...just ask!

As soon as I get the pictures from soccer, I'm going to post. My dad was kind enough to come and take pics of Owen yesterday. Can't wait to see them!

New friends!

Earlier in the year, I started a boot camp where I met a new friend, Carly. We were each partner's when stretching one day and of course got to talking. Turned out Carly had a 3 year old little boy, Jackson, who's just 3 weeks older than Owen. We decided to meet for a playdate one day and the rest is all history-well, the last 6 months or so! We play often and the boys are EXACTLY the same! Super competitive, very active and just plain silly! We've been to the park, Pretend City, Frogg's Bounce House, Disneyland and of course, to each other's homes to hang out! It's truly been a great time getting to know Jackson and his mom, Carly and his dad Stephen! Here are some pictures from a couple times we've had playtime together!

It's about time...

It's been quite some time since I've blogged. Life has, well, just happened and our priorities (especially during the summer time) are not to blog. But as the weather cools, and hopefully it will, I'll be blogging a lot more! Plus Owen is sleeping and I just don't feel like doing laundry or the dishes!
Here's a quick list of Keenan Happenings in May and June!

May 2010- My 33rd birthday. I still get carded. It's cool! I begged Greg to go to Disneyland on my birthday-just the two of us-and we did! We started out at Schooner or Later with Laura and Beau and then headed off to the happiest place on earth! We were able to go on all of the adult rides and do what we wanted while we were there. Owen stayed with Gramma. We didn't last very long so we headed home and had dinner at Fio Rito's.
And of course Mother's Day. Double whammy for me! Loved every minute of it! I went to Owen's school for a Mother's Day breakfast and it was so heartwarming. He painted a cute little water can for me and the kids all performed a song and dance for their mommies. We got to eat breakfast and chit chat with the other mom's there, too!

We also get to hang with one of Owen's best buddies, Tanner! Before Owen was born, it was said that him and Tanner HAD to be friends. Greg and his family have known Tanner's family since he was born so whether they liked it or not, these two new babies, were going to be bros! And guess what!? They are! These guys LOVE each other! Both of them attend school together and although they are completely different little boys, they totally get a long! And as the summer moves forward, Tanner's brother Riley, affectionately known as "Bruds" loves to play with Owen too! They are the 3 Musketeers!

June 2010- Owen's last month of school! I decided to take him out for the summer. I felt bad sending him there when there are all sorts of fun things we can do! Playdates, the beach, Disneyland, the park. The list goes on! He was excited to be "off of school" and tells everyone that he is. Owen played mini golf for the first time at Cayden's 3rd birthday party. (Pictures below) It was a scorcher that day and we hurried along through the game just to get to shade. Needless to say, he had a blast playing with cousin Johnny and Cayden!

Another June happening is Greg's business started! Cerritos Hydro Shop! YAY! It's been a huge work in progress but the doors opened June 7, 2010. We've ultimately switched roles and he's at work a lot! But he's proud of this accomplishment and so are we!

Owen also started taking swim lessons! I had heard of Aquatic Explorations through a family member and decided to check it out. We went for our trial lesson and Owen and his teacher, Mr. Rob, seemed to hit it off well! He even jumped in on his first day. Well, that was the last time he jumped in, too! Owen doesn't like to be out of his own control. I think he gets that from his momma. While he was perfectly happy kicking using the kicking bar, things like floating on his back and sides, were just not what he wanted to do. I watched as he would always grab for Mr. Rob's neck to hold on and he would whine from time to time that he didn't want to. Mr. Rob was super patient and always had to compromise with Owen. But he still made an impact on him! Owen would show Daddy what he learned in swim class during bath time! The biggest issue Owen seemed to have towards the end (last week of August was when we stopped going) was getting his ears wet...or underwater. He claimed he couldn't hear and would pretty much freak out. So funny to watch, but I felt bad for him too. He just didn't like it. Here are a few pics from the earlier lessons when he cooperated with his teacher.

Thursday, April 29, 2010's been a while!

So it's been a while since I've posted. You'd think since I am no longer working full time that I would have more time to update this blog. It's quite the opposite. I've immersed myself into life as we know it. So what is that, you as we know it? It includes: a 3 year old with the attention span of soap, a new business venture for me and a new business venture for Greg and trying to make time for life as a family. I'm still getting used to being the housekeeper. Dishes, laundry, cleaning...oh boy! Have I got my work cut out for me!?! And to top it all off, Greg recently broke his right wrist so he's on the bench for cleaning the way he used to. Boo!

All in all, we're doing well. I'll post some pics soon! Owen has grown immensely in these past few months! He's super smart and too big for his britches! ;) He's going to start swim lessons soon and is going to participate in a sports class through school. He told me "sign me up, Mom!"
So more to come. I promise!

Summertime and the livin' is easy!

We played in the backyard a lot this past summer!
We were lucky to have a little bit of shade and a whole lotta sun!
Ry and Stef came over one day for a little bit of water fun!
Thank goodness for plastic pools for $14.99 from Ace Hardware!
Getting ready to cool off!

Come on in! The water is great!

A little sprinkler action!

I put the slide into the water and Owen absolutely LOVED it!
It was his own private Raging Waters.

Always going down belly first!

Stef and I had to join in on cooling off.
We also cooled off with some refreshing white wine! Wink wink!
Nothin' beats summer days!

Beach Party

My high school girlfriends were treated to a day of fun in the sun, courtesy of Brooke!
She hosted a beach "soiree" at Santa Monica beach for us and the kids!
She had all kinds of toys, a bubble machine, a pool, snacks, drinks and music for all!
Getting in the water!
